Getting to Oxford
Air
International participants flying into Heathrow or Gatwick should board an Airline coach provided by the Oxford Bus Company. These distinctive blue vehicles run a regular service from the Heathrow Central Bus Station (Bay 14a) and Terminal 5 (Bay 11), with a journey time to Oxford City Centre of c.90 minutes. A period return ticket costs £26; these can either be booked in advance or purchased (cash only) from the driver on the day. Buses also depart regularly from the South (Lower Forecourt, Stand 18) and North (Lower Forecourt, Bay 5) Terminals of Gatwick airport, with a journey time of c.150 minutes, where a period return ticket costs £36. On arrival in Oxford from either of these services, get off at the final stop, Gloucester Green bus station on George Street, which is a 15-minute walk from the College (see the map below). Birmingham International, Stansted, and Luton airports have less frequent coach and/or rail connections with Oxford.
Rail and Coach
There are frequent direct trains to Oxford station from London Paddington and regular links northwards via Birmingham, southwards via Reading, and westwards via Didcot. Timetables, connections, and fares are available from National Rail. The station is a 15-minute walk from St Anne’s (see the map below).
Oxford-bound green Espress Buses also run very frequent services from several locations in central London, as does the red Oxford Tube. A less frequent service connects with Birmingham International Airport. There are connections with many other parts of the country, including a direct service to Cambridge. On arrival in Oxford from any of these services, get off at the final stop, Gloucester Green bus station on George Street, which is a 15-minute walk from the College (see the map below).
Car
Detailed instructions for reaching Oxford by car can be found on the University website. The city centre is best avoided by approaching College from the north on the A4165 Banbury Road or A4144 Woodstock Road, both of which are accessible from the ring road. Sat Nav users should enter the postcode OX2 6HT. If using the M40 from the north leave at Junction 9, but from the south-east leave at Junction 8. Please be aware that on-road parking near College is near impossible, and unauthorized parking in College is prohibited; if you are planning to drive to the conference, please contact us as soon as possible with your registration details and dates of arrival and departure so we can arrange a short-term permit. Park and Ride services are also available.
